I've been visiting London since I was a boy, but I still remember the thrill of the first time I arrived. A day in London meant a day full of surprises, where something fascinating, beautiful or inspiring could be around the next corner. I always knew I would come and live here, and now I have been in the city for over 25 years. And I still find surprising and new things. My real pleasure is to show people London's special places and share the inspiring stories from people who have lived here, whether long ago or today.

From the mid 19th Century to the Second World War, the streets of Clerkenwell around Saffron Hill were known as Il Quartiere to Italian residents. This experience will explore the every day life in London's Little Italy, introducing the characters who made up this world within a world beneath the viaducts of the Clerkenwell Road. There are love stories, tragedies, tales of bravery and fortitude, as well as crime and poverty. In this 90 minute experience, I will tell you unheard stories, show you unseen photographs and the tell you stories recorded by Olive Besagni in her book A Better Life, to conjure up the street-life of a century ago into the now quiet Clerkenwell side streets.

Rob Smith's walks are highly recommended. He conveys a wealth of interesting information in a relaxed and congenial atmosphere. Great attention is paid to detail and great care is taken. Visitors to London and long-time residents would all be delighted.

Very interesting walk with Rob Smith who was very knowledgeable and had obviously researched the topic thoroughly. Rob set the scene by describing the history of the area first and as the walk progressed brought the 'events' of the time more up to date. Found it fascinating as it was relevant to my own family research. Highly recommended.
